Info about same-sex weddings in Italy

It took time, probably too much, but at last since May 2016 it is possible for same-sex couples to get married in Italy and to have a valid wedding for the country of origin if it recognises same-sex weddings as legal. That is definetely a really important step for Italy and for all the couples that always dreamt about getting married here.
The procedure is called “Civil Union” and it is really simple, you will need to make a declaration before a Civil Status Officer and two witnesses: thanks to this declaration there is no need of publications, differently from the other weddings.
The Civil Status Officer will file of the Civil Union that will be registered and kept in the State public archives.
You can find all the data required for it on the web pages of the Town Hall you decide to get married in, but the main document to provide is the one (Nulla Osta, Affidavit or Dichiarazione Giurata etc, depending on your law) that states that there is no legal impediment to the wedding, according to the laws your country.
With the Civil Union the parts gains the same rights and the same duties, as it is in the etherosexual civil weddings, but in same-sex weddings, there is no expectation of faithfullness nor the possibility of the stepchild adoption up to now.
Anyway before May 2016, the only way to celebrate same-sex weddings was only a symbolic ceremony and this is still possible for the couples who prefer to have a civil ceremony in their own country and then come to celebrate an amazing destination wedding in Italy.
You have all the options, now it is up to you to decide and I’ll be glad to shoot your dream day.
